New Facility

The new Milton Day Centre serves a large population that stretches across a wide area from Burlington to Guelph, and from Cambridge-Kitchener-Waterloo to Orangeville. This area currently lacks adequate facilities for the Deaf. The multi-use facility includes ideal space for the many programs offered as well as serve as the administrative hub for the Associations. This includes the Day Program, an open concept Common Room, and innovative Sensory and Wellness Rooms.

The Day Centre's focus is on those Deaf plus individuals, principally those graduating from the Drury School. Graduates no longer have to feel like they are leaving behind the best years of their lives. They can be in an environment where they are understood, where they have a sense of belonging, and where they have friends.

The Centre provides job skills training and, for many, assists with job placement, life skills, literacy, basic math, and internet training. We help clients and their families to cope and learn from issues that face them. There are dozens of children graduating each year, and this Centre will help them from becoming isolated and giving up hope.

"We need a day program for the deaf plus where other youth like my son can understand staff and communicate with one another. A better quality of life is achieved for our children when they are in an environment, where they have an opportunity to communicate and be understood, regardless of their other abilities."

"I am privileged to work for an organization that aspires to provide the best quality of life possible for the individuals in our care. It is an enriching experience to see the individuals cultivate into their own person, developing a sense of self-worth. Just knowing that I have contributed a little to their lives makes it all worthwhile."
