The Adult Education Department at BRCD has been teaching literacy since 1988. We strive to create a positive learning environment to help in the development of each deaf, deafened and hard of hearing learner academically, emotionally and socially. There are two programs currently serving Deaf adults who are residents of Canada: Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) for Canadian citizens, landed immigrants, convention refugee applicants, and convention refugees able to work on English and ASL at a high Level 1 or Level 2; funded by MTCU. Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) for landed immigrants and convention refugees, funded by CIC. Resources used for teaching English include TTYs and computers. Program Hours: Full-time LBS and LINC: Monday to Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Part-time LBS: Wednesday: 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cost to Learners/Students: Both programs are free. |
