The Happy Hands Preschool at the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf is a unique program that
is opening up new horizons for both deaf and hearing preschool children.Founded in 1979, the preschool offers a traditional program for children between the ages of 2 1/2 to 5 years. Development in language, self-help, social/emotional, cognitive, and motor skills is emphasized. The Preschool runs an American Sign Language based program for deaf and hard of hearing children, hearing children with a deaf immediate family member, and hearing children with hearing parents who work in the deaf community. We provide an American Sign Language and English Literacy Program. Thanks to our partnerships with the Canadian Hearing Society and Toronto Preschool Speech and Language Services, we offer Speech Pathology and Auditory Skills Training. Happy Hands Preschool now accepts hearing children from the community (ages 2 1/2 to 5). These children will receive an English based preschool education, with enhanced programming in introductory sign language! EMPHASIS ON THE INDIVIDUAL CHILD Each child receives individual attention, as the teacher-child ratio is 1-4. The ratio for the hearing children is slightly higher at 1-8. Developmental assessments and report cards are completed on each child. The aim of the program is to help develop a happy well-rounded child and to assist each one in becoming a confident and independent individual. To achieve this, the activities each day stress social, emotional, physical and mental development. click here to continue on for more information.
