Fundraising Event:
The Toronto Challenge Walk/Run

This year the Foundation is participating in the Toronto Challenge in order to raise funds for the Bob Rumball Centre. The 1km or 5km walk, or 5km run is a regular event in Toronto, and helps to raise money for organizations serving seniors in the community.

This year it will be held on Sunday, June 8th starting at 9:30am downtown at Metro Hall.

We are looking for individuals or teams of people to walk or run in support of the BRCD. Volunteers, staff, clients and students… everyone is welcome.

All you have to do is get people to sponsor you and attend the walk/run. There is a registration fee for participating, which covers things like refreshments during the race. The fee is $10 for seniors and children (14 and under) and $20 for those aged 15-64. There is also a category for a family of 4 for $40 (2 adults 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) BRFD will reimburse the fee if you provide $130 worth of sponsors.

This race is a grand scale event, with celebrities, entertainment, prizes and a t-shirt for participants who register early. We plan to have groups of people walk together at the 1km and 5 km level. You don't have to be in great shape; young or old-- everyone can participate. Last year an elderly couple shared a walker and a scooter doing the 1km walk. If they can do it, anyone can!

Registration/sponsorship forms are available now from the fundraising office or on line at www.toronto.ca/challenge/ntc_forms.html Please contact Rebecca Simkin (see below) as soon as possible if you intend to participate so she can coordinate the group.

More information can be obtained by visiting the Toronto Challenge Website at: www.toronto.ca/challenge/

Thanks in advance for your support! By the way, if you can’t walk or run, you can always sponsor someone who is, or volunteer to help the day of the run. We need lots of people.
