The aim of the Sign Language Services program is to reduce the barriers of communication experienced by Deaf individuals by promoting the use of American Sign Language within the hearing community.

All our instructors are certified and qualified to teach the Signing Naturally curriculum.

This course is the first level of our curriculum. No previous knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is required.

Classifiers are handshapes that are used in ASL to show movement, size,shape, location and and provide descriptions of people, animals and objects. It helps the signer to create a more visual picture.

Students registering for any level that has a prerequisite who have not completed the previous level of ASL at BRCCED must take an online placement test to determine their level. Please e-mail Sign Language Services to arrange your placement test with the coordinator. Charge of $20 payable for assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions
We offer American Sign Language beginner, novice, and advanced courses online and in-person to ages 14 and up. Occasionally we offer children courses.
We also offer ASL Camp and Weekend Retreats at our site in Parry Sound, ON (3 hours north of Toronto). All levels welcomed.
For in-person and virtual classes, beginners start at Level 1A. If you have some experience already and unsure what level to take, sign up for a $20 test to place you in a level.
Novice and advanced signers will take Level 3A. If you have some experience already and unsure what level to take, sign up for a $20 test to place you in a level.

We offer virtual classes online and in-person classes at our centre in Toronto.
ASL Summer Camp and Weekend Retreats are held in Parry Sound, about 3 hours north of Toronto.
Materials are non-refundable. Students who have pre-paid for their material will be able to pick up their material before the first class.
A written or an email request to withdraw must be received by Sign Language Services, before the second class, for a partial refund of course fees. Requests received afterthe second class will not be accepted. Letters can be faxed to Sign Language Services. Fees will be refunded, less an administration fee of $20.00 per student. Workbooks and DVDs are non-refundable. All refunded fees will be reimbursed with a cheque. Please allow 3 to 6 weeks for processing and delivery of refund.
