Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf
Policy: the purpose of the Seniors’ Anti-Bullying policy is to ensure that all Tenants and Visitors can expect to feel comfortable and safe whether in groups large or small, or on their own at BRCCED. BRCCED is committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe, and is treated fairly and respectfully, at all times.
BRCCED expects that everyone conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful of other people at all times, in any area of the building. Bullying is not tolerated at BRCCED. Bullying is “a behaviour that makes the person being bullied feel afraid or uncomfortable. It can be in the form of unwanted, repeated aggression or happen one time. It can be carried out by one person or a group of people.”
Rationale: this procedure is in place to ensure that if someone feels that they are experiencing bullying, or has seen someone being bullied, that they know how to report it, and who to see for help.
Procedure:
- If you are being bullied, or have seen people being bullied, go to ANY Seniors’ Services Staff to report it.
- Staff may ask another Staff person to help with supporting you.
- Staff will listen and work with you to make a plan for what will happen next.
Note: Staff are not investigators, but will work with you, and those involved, to ensure that everyone is reminded of the policy, its expectations, and their responsibilities in honouring it. - The Seniors’ Anti-Bullying Policy will be shared with new Tenants as part of the package of documents that they receive before moving to the Seniors’ Assisted living Program, and will be expected to sign the policy before moving in.
- The Seniors’ ‘Welcome Wagon’ will invite new Tenants to ask questions about our Seniors’ Assisted Living program, including our policies.
- The Seniors’ Anti-bullying Policy will be translated into ASL and will be reviewed annually at one of the bi-monthly Tenant Meetings.
- The Seniors’ Anti-Bullying Policy will be included in the TDSC Newsletter annually.
- Seniors’ Services Staff will review the Seniors’ Anti-Bullying Policy annually at a Team Meeting.
- Staff will ensure that Seniors have access to the Seniors’ Anti-Bullying Policy communicated in ASL.
If you are not satisfied with the support you receive, you may follow the BRCCED organization’s Complaints Procedure. It is as follows:
Complaints Procedure
The Bob Rumball Organizations, will ensure that all individuals within the work environment as well as the general public, may bring forward any concern regarding service quality including accessibility, or any issue of any kind that they feel needs to be discussed. All efforts will be made to find an acceptable resolution to all concerns brought forward. A request to review an issue of concern may be submitted by an individual, or with expressed consent, any person on behalf of an individual.
How to complain:
Please complain centrally to the Bob Rumball Organizations either by phone, this website or by post. If you do not, we cannot guarantee that your complaint will reach the right people or that you’ll receive a reply when you write in.
If you call us, we summarize your complaint for the production team or relevant department to read and you will not normally receive a written reply. If you complain online we provide a webform rather than an email address. This is because we need to capture some key information to classify, report and track your complaint efficiently. We reply in writing only if you complain in writing, unless we know you need access assistance.
