Annual Clinical Interviewing Skills Event 2026
Rumball Deaf Staff – Standardized Patient Simulators

Seniors’ Services has been supporting the University of Toronto’s Medical Student Placements for many years. Two of our previous Placement Students believed that all Medical Students should have the opportunity to engage with a patient who is Deaf, and successfully advocated for our inclusion in their annual ‘Clinical Interviewing Skills Event’. On Jan. 9th, at various Hospitals across the GTA, seven of our Rumball Staff, partnered with an Interpreter, presented as Deaf “Simulators” or “Patients”, for the Med Students to interview. Each “Simulator” received four hours of Standardized Patient Training to prepare them for the event.
We celebrate this collaboration and partnership between the Bob Rumball organization and the U of T Med Program, recognizing that having members of the Deaf community working with future physicians creates an impact that is mutually beneficial.
We thank all of our Rumball Staff and the Interpreters who supported this event!
